Thanks Val… It’s really a joy to photograph… I know it’s a passion for you too!!! I think these kinds of shots are the coolest to take because they are about moments… it’s so fun to look at something and think: “I gotta take a shot of this right now”!!!!
Spot on Giulas, capturing a moment in time, a time never to be repeated, is priceless. We had a discussion on this very subject at our camera club, a few weeks ago. I’m like you, I love taking people, without their knowledge of my camera. people make fantastic subjects. Sadly, some people think its an invasion of privacy, I don’t , I think its a privilege to capture the people I share this world with.
I think the problem is people never knows who are taking the photos and why… I’m not only talking about the reason for the photo as a matter of privacy but also the quality and the purpose of the shot. Sometimes if they knew the idea behind it and the possible result they would not mind. It happened to me sometimes that i had to explain why the photo. It helps to show the LCD once in a while for a more preoccupied subject… 🙂
Well observed. And the black and white is perfect.
I don’t necessarily disapprove of taking photos of people —
but I can’t do it myself, it’s like I get all shy and embarrassed.
Dumb, I know — but there it is.
Not Dumb!! I understand you so well!!! Sometimes i still feel kinda embarrassed… but much less… when i started it was terrible… I just couldn’t do it so the alternative was to use telephoto lens and photograph from a distance…
I’ve got to hand it to you Giulas, you sure know how to pull a cracker. Superb.
Val

I love this shot – the stark contrast of the old and the new………….
Good point… There’s something about these orthodox jews that makes them look as they belong in older ages. It brings me a really nostalgic feeling…

Such odd differences between what they wear and the use of modern tools.
That’s exactly what attracted me to take this one… interesting isn’t it?
