I live in a very big city and as any other very big city the number of cars is much higher than i should be. I was going to work today morning and i witnessed a scene that is so common it’s scary. There was no trafic light in this smal street and a car driven by a woman in front of me was trying to turn right into the larger street. His was having a hard time partly because she probably didn’t drive that well and partly because that larger street was really crowded. After some time trying she decide to go for it cutting a bus but with a reasonable distance. The guy driving the bus had at least 30 feet to stop and he was a about ten mph at the most. Even so he continued moving forcing the car on his left to move out of the way. I saw his face and really wandered. It there was no law and no restrains of any kind would he hit the woman’s car. I think maybe he would. I see that kind o attitude in many occasions. The only thing keeping him from doing it is the punishment. How many people didn’t get into fights on even committed crimes just because of the punishment? That makes me wonder. I think of our selves as sophisticated beings on the top of the evolution chain. With invented cures for our selves and the most amazing technology. We are able to love and to tell histories of love. How can we accept that there’s is no moral judgement balancing our everyday activities ?The fact is some people still lack moral sense and ethics and the only thing keeping them in control is the law and the regulations. Common sense is not in place here. That show something is wrong with the model. People are too stressed by this amount of events called modern life and some are not dealing with it in a healthy way. Why are we so late and worried? So repressed? So intensely caged that when there’s a chance we forget our place and turn into the animals that can only relate to instincts? I’ll stop and think twice next time i get angry. I hope you all do the same.
I know you. You are made of flesh and bones. I know that. You believe you are made to be superior and to shine as a star and you keep complaining because you think you didn’t get all the joy and happiness you expected you would. For some reason your mind works in a strange way sometimes against your will. You want to be thin but you eat to much and the more you want the more you get frustrated and the more you eat. I understand a lot about cycles and how hard it is to stop them. You want to have a partner but you keep choosing against your better judgement. I know you are not so smart celularly speaking. You barely control your cast and a few random processing matters. I guess what blocks you is the non acceptance of your nature, of your real way of conducting things. You spend most of your time trying to believe you are something else. More spiritual and more elegantly build. That also i can understand because you have some confusing patterns to follow. I can’t imagine how it would be to love your own self and to hate others. I guess to be able to get there you have to suppress a lot of information. That’s something interesting about you. You always remember what you want and the way you want it. How can you forget about the wrongs you did until you got a couple rights? God is complexity! Complexity is our nature and if you forget this you will be doomed to live in a worthless mind that produces much more entertainment than productivity and because of that you don’t have extra time to process your joy and happiness. I can’t get into your mind yet but i’m afraid that if i did i would not find room for this happiness you talk so much about. So sometimes i wonder if you were really built for that. Maybe you were truly build to serve. Always thinking you are always guilty of something and trying to repair your life. Doing for others what you don’t do to yourself. You have been serving me for a while now and i can’t complain. I had no effort to be who i am today. But maybe the reason for that is that i deserve it and i’m not self destructing. I just believe my existence is here to exist. No judgement and no big expectations. I work my work and i rest my rest. I am what i am and nobody can say differently. There was a time when you outsmarted me but you invested so much of you in me that today you sound like an old sad creature with not much use. I’m glad you keep dreaming your dreams because they help you endure this lack of perspective you have about your life and without it you could not stand it all. Well… Anything you need from me just type something and i’ll try to do my best.
Those of you who know Ray Kurzweil and his ideas already got the theme for this post. He is one of the most important minds from the computer era. He wrote the first patern recognition software when he was fifteen and played a piano song composed by this software Invented the matching system to help students decide the best college when he was twenty. This was in 1968. From that time till now he invented text recognition to help the blind, the music sampler and his Kurzweil keyboard company, the speech recognition, AARON the software that was able to create poems with meaning. He is also a futurist and the author of many books about future tecnology. Needless to say he knows about computer science. In his books he make a lot of predictions based on his knowledge about the future of this field. A documentary will come up in february talking about him and hes ideas. There’s this idea that makes me struggle to accept though i know it’s not impossible at all. He has this theory that technology grows exponentially and doubles every year. So far he hes been totally right. Following this prediction the human leap that started with computers and today means internet and iphones and gps and nanobots performing surgeries in the future will represent the union of man and machine. Far away of believing man will become slave from machine he believes we will grow a technology sophisticated enough to better humans and expand our lives. Putting some predictions together: In 20 years computers will have the same capacity of the human brain and more importantly in 40 they will exceed this capacity millions of times. Computers are getting smaller and in 20 years they will be able to perform celular repairs and sustain a better use of our bodies. Medicine will in 20 years master the major corrections on living grown up human beings. Obesity, hair loss, heart failure, diabetes and cancer will be totally controllable. The sum of these and other predictions tells fantastic tales: Computers with the size of a neuron will life in our brains helps us control our own perception the way we prefer. We can get out of this reality and get into another one. We can be smarter and stronger and heal from the inside being able to live more than 120 years. Is cool to listen to the ideas of a person that understands the near future so much and is optimistic about it. So why my struggle to accept this? It is because it’s fantastic? I don’t think it’s fantastic at all. At same point it will happen but at the same time i remember Paul Sartre: “Hell is other people”. All of this is a prediction that follows one person. Let’s remember the case on other person that invented something good: Albert Einstein. His accomplishment is the theory of relativity but his legacy to the world is also all the possible uses from this idea so hes legacy is also the atomic bomb. The problem with the future of mankind is still and always will be mankind. What good will do this technology if only very powerful and rich people have the chance to use it? What will the world strong nation will do with robots that control the reality inside a man’s brain? Maybe we will have slaves all around third world working 24/7 juiced up by these machines and technologies thinking in their heads they are living in an eternal vacation full of joy and happiness. Maybe people starving in third world countries will beg to be one of these slaves to ease their suffering from lack of food and human care. Maybe that will only boost what we already have today. So the important thing is: When will someone like Mr. Kurzweil with so much intelligence will find a way to make the world a more equal place? Maybe before finding a way for humans to live more than 120 years old we should find a way to guarantee any human being to reach adult life.
