Even a Kiss can have many interpretations. It’s not always love and it’s not always good. I say that because after looking at my files i found the most “appropriate” shot for this week’s challenge. At least in my opinion. At least is not something usual. At least it makes us think. I shot this in Berlin and this is a painting done by Dmitri Vrubel at the famous Berlin wall on East Side Gallery part. It’s a mile of the wall that was given to artists all over the world to paint about the wall itself. This particular painting is based on an also famous photograph of an “infamous” kiss between soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and his East German counterpart Erich Honecker. As another sad piece of news i read that this and all the other paintings on the wall of East Side Gallery were destroyed by renovations on the wall itself. Those are scars outliving art itself.
And here is a photo i found on the web of how it is today. Really sadly destroyed.
Hey G. This is a great find. Nice research on your part. The original painting is fantastic. Sad to see it destroyed.
Thanks!!! The first was my shot…the second not…i was lucky to see it in a great shape!!!
Oh my, this is just too — dare I say “weird” – That these two men should come together in such a ‘romantic’-like posture speaks volumes for the times – or could. A fantastic shot especially alongside of today’s graffitied version. Thanks for this bit of history. I know I don’t post every response but, Giulas – I continue to adore your work. Best – gwen
Wow!!! Thank you so much Gwen!!! Really kind!!! Not just weird but really ugly being the kiss of the two responsables for the Berlin wall…
Quiet. A. Statement.
Amazing.
Thank you Kath!!! 🙂 Really sweet!!
Any idea what happened to the original artist after making such a painting? I’ll bet he was assassinated!
No dear…lol… He was not…This was painted after the fall of the wall. If it was before the fall he wouldn’t even be able to get close… The place was full of barbed wire….
You are laughing at me! I don’t blame you. It all seems so long ago to me, you’d think I was young or something! Ha! 🙂 Thanks for the history lesson, Friend.
I would never laugh at you!!! I just imagined how crazy it would be the situation… Surely the girl would be dead by now…That’s not the case. He and the other artists were invited. I guess the germans were trying to cover that shame somehow… It didn’t work so they tried another approach…
I never will get history figured out, but I don’t mind being laughed at about that, because I can do other things very well. 🙂 I think it’s funny, myself, how mixed up I can be, sometimes! 😀

I love your entry!
Thanks!!
Truly sad it’s fallen into such a sad state.
True…. I guess Germans really want to wipe out this part of their history…
Just think, both of these shots are now very creative records of history, knowledge and expression. Others may not be able to see the importance of them but they are quite important, and I recognize the importance.
Well done.
That’s because you know your art!! Thank you!!
But you have saved a small piece of history! Well done.
Thank you Tina!!! 🙂
