The first think that came into my mind when i got the email for this week’s challenge was about the tools one uses to create. From pencils to brushes from computers to wood carvers…Then i remembered this shot i took in the beginning of this year. An old sewing machine must have a lot of stories to tell. How many creations came from this one? How many sets of hands used to work on it? It’s fascinating how much story a tool can carry…
Nice shot, I like how deep the shadows are and the various small but bright highlights give a good balance. π
Thank you so much!!
Nice. My mother has a machine like this when I was a kid, only it had Singer on the side.
It brings good memories ?? To me it does… π
That is beautiful. My grandmother had one very similar to that.
π it’s really beautiful….
Only the basic stitch, but it goes so much faster than sewing by hand!
So true!!
cool shot! love the colors and lighting here
Thank you!!! π
Reblogged this on Stitch Mode and commented:
Such a beautiful looking sewing machine here! Thank you for posting The eternal solitude of the restless Mind
Giulas, beautiful reminder of my past. In 1954 my mom found work in downtown Los Angeles in a ‘sewing’ factory – sewing pockets on robes for 3 cents a pocket. She had no initial knowledge of how to use the machine – just said I can do this and so she did.
Thanks for this.
Thank you for the story!!! Inspiring how things at those times depended on determination!! Today things are so messy… π
Fantastic shot, and the machine is in such great shape.
True… Really gorgeous isn’t it??? I almost started to sew to get one of these…lol
Beautiful piece of craftsmanship!
And the sewing machine isn’t too bad, either! π
This reminds me of my grandmother… she used to have a very similar machine. It was built into a wooden framework and would ‘flip-over’ to form a table… kinda cool!
π
I think everyone has a memory with one of these machines… I get really amazed by mechanic machines… I guess that’s because there aren’t many of those around anymore…Today it’s all eletronics… not the same thing….thank you my friend!!! π
What a gorgeous machine. My mom used to own one back in the day. π
π …that was my grandma mostly… but it’s the same story here… π
Giuls, why am I not getting your posts?! I am so sorry I missed this one! It is like my life. I SO MUCH love the antique tools because when we touch them, we are placing our hands where someone else placed his, long ago. A worker, an artist, no matter! That we could be privileged to touch what they touched! Oh!
And if the tool still works, I almost can feel the hands that went before mine, guiding my work.
I have an old sewing machine like this one. I keep it for the day when we no longer have electricity. Then I will be rich because I, above all other people, will be able to sew! I will create marvelous things, then, and no one else will be able to do so. π
What a lovely comment Kath!!! I feel the same way about these tools… I don’t sew but i’m fascinated by the history that this machine may have. Things we will probably never know. How much it witnessed…I love the history of things! About the idea of electricity…great one. I just hope it doesn’t happen on my lifetime. Electricity is like any other vice… and we are addicted!!! But you could pretend there’s no electricity and start doing these marvelous things!!!! π
I already do sew, Giuls, but with electricity. I have made many formal evening gowns and intricate window curtains. I love sewing. Like any other art, but most like sculpture, you just learn how, and then get the “feel” for it. Recenty I made many eye pillows with rice and lavender in them, to warm in sunlight, and then use during headaches. They are so pretty.
Anyway, although we cannot prove the history of these tools, we can touch them and know. Without proof.
π you said it well!!! I know you do sew!! I just meant in a more “Don Quijote” way… π You should post more about the stuff you do… I don’t remember evening gowns in your blog…It would be lovely to see!!! π
Old sewing machines are beautiful to me…as are old typewriters…
Great idea for a next one…old typewriter!!!
