This week’s challenge was not that easy to me. I’m one of those people that thinks nothing is that simple. There’s always something else about something that makes is unique and complex and intriguing and amazing. So i’ll post only one shot this time so maybe i can make my point clear. Shoes on the wire can mean fun? I heard it can mean danger. Some dealers use it as a signal. It can mean peace. How many stories are behind a shoe in the wire and what’s the story of this one? Not that simple to figure…
That is such a cool shot G. I use to see it everwhere back in Philly in the 80’s and 90’s.
Me too!! This is common here as a prank for freshmen… š thanks!!!
Great shot! It may just simply be shoes on a wire. Love the composition.
True!!! š
Thank you…i just love your shots!!!
They look like a perfectly good pair of shoes, I wonder why? A couple of weeks ago I saw a metal bucket 20 feet up in a tree, why?
I don’t have a clue… š
Uhhh, how come???
Simply perfect! Thanks for the share š
That’s what i thought….how come?? thank you!!! š
I saw an Extreme Home Makeover show where the shoes on the wires means, basically, “Drugs are served here.” They were removed.
I heard that… where i live they do this as a prank in college for freshmen…kids do that too sometimes… so i guess there are different uses… as i said…not that simple, right? š
That’s what I love about college: It’s and expensive junior high (where I come from)āor middle school (where I now am). The college experience certainly isn’t conducive to growing up, I’m thinking. It wasn’t when I attended; it seems even less so now.
Maybe someday they will stop insisting in it!! lol
I see shoes on the wire near my neighborhood – good or bad sign? Great photo.
I don’t know!!! š i hope it is a good sign!!!
So what would kids do with sneakers if all electrical wires were buried hmmmmm?
š true!!!
I’ve heard this can mean different things different places… sure makes for an interesting shot, though, doesn’t it? Great photo, sir (I’ve always wanted to make a painting like this… maybe some day… it’s on my list)!
š
Thank you so much, Sir!!! I’m waiting to see your painting!!! š
You say this is simple? I wonder how many goes it took to get the shoes stuck like this. It’s gotta be harder than it seems!
Sure!! lol… I mean simple as a concept. You look at it just as shoes on the wire…but maybe that’s much more to it!! My point here is that nothing is really simple…
Such a waste of shoes. I hate seeing that. Either someone stole someone’s shoes and now they are barefooted or the shoes are lonely hanging up there like that. Nice shot though.
THanks dear… as you see it’s not a simple subject after all…
you have composed this in such a way that I have never seen before. Well done.
Wow…Thank you Lissa!!! That’s a great compliment!! š
Loved your words and the photo.
You’re right that not everything is that simple. The simple act of throwing a shoe at the wire could send so much messages.
Thank you my friend!!! That is a fact…nothing is really simple… š …that’s the beauty of it!!
I’m a big fan of shoe stacking so it was good to come across this shot. I have heard lots of talk about the meaning behind shoes on wires and perhaps there is a hidden significance. However from when I was very young I can remember children throwing shoes over wires simply for fun! There is a street artist who makes and paints wooden shoes and throws them over wires. Shoes on wires always make an interesting subject and I have quite a collection! In Sheffield I am one of the founding members of the Heeley Institute of Shoe Stackers. Best wishes. Happy blogging….
Wow… Now i kinda know everything about Shoe Stacking! lol …I love the idea of making art of it!!! Thank you for the insights on the subject! great stuff!!!
Hi,
I think it’s interesting how people like to attach meaning to things they may not fully understand. I think that is how so many myths have grown up around shoe stacking. Here are a few quick links. Two links to a few of my photographs and a link to a youtube video of a shoe tree where shoes stacking is taken to the extreme. Sadly the tree was destroyed by fire.
Here are 4 photographs of shoe stacking on my other blog:

Here is one of my favourite multiple shoe stacks:
