Why is that some people just love to talk about other people’s lives? Some say that is because these people’s lives are empty and they need to fill it. It is for a fact one of the tools of a bourgeois society. It is a very effective kind of control that uses fear to control desire. We know how reputation is a commodity these days maybe not as huge as it was on the 60’s but it still is. The problem with this tool is that it lessens both subject and gossiper. It levels everyone but it levels on the botton and not on the top. Amazingly after all this evolution humankind hes been going through some still think that by lowering others they’ll grow themselves up.The biggest problem is that sometimes a gossip can really ruin the live of a person or a company. It happened many times. “That store is going bankrupt”. People stops making business with them and sometime later the store really get bankrupt. In this global society we live today this can be even worst. It’s happening all over is stock markets and international economy. “That bank is going down”. This statement alone can make that bank go down by itself. “Where there’s smoke there’s fire” is an old expression where i live and it is true but sometimes it seams like some comes before the fire and not the other way around.
“. . . control that uses fear to control desire.” Great line and SO true!
Thanks!!! 🙂
One thing about that is that it starts out innocently in grade school. Let’s us high school as an example. For a lot of us at that age all that we really know about life is the world around us and if we are well liked and people think that we are normal than there is a sense of wellbeing with that…if that is what it can really be called, but the more friends that we have, the more popular or well liked that we are, that is reputation, it may make us feel like we are on a road to success, perhaps. Then the down side of that is when people use it against each other like you were saying.
This is a very good point, sir. While I have to admit I’m guilty of talking a bit too much at times I do my best to avoid most gossip altogether. It seems that many people who think they have the most to say about others really have the least to say in the end.
Wow!!! This is a very good point, sir!! Very true… But they still manage to talk even having not much to say!!! lol
Hi, somebody suggested me to see your blog, and it really fascinated me alot .. keep it up 🙂 can u also suggest me something 🙂
Wow!! Thank you very much!!! i can suggest you many!!! my friends here are amazing!!! I can start with “gods of vice”…really amazing…
*blush* – flattered- thank you!
It’s true!
You are right and in this day and age when communication travels faster than ever it..gossip is extra dangerous.
Faster than the speed of light…
Humans seem to need to spread negativity rather than positivity. It’s a shame. So much could be accomplished if it were the other way around.
True!!! A friend of mine use to say a beautiful thing ” I use to say great things about you behind your back” !!
I was never in to gossip. I would always rather talk with people about something fun and interesting, like traveling, music, astrology,…
I do the same and that’s the best thing we can do!!!
While it is often true that “where there is smoke, there is fire” (a popular saying here, too) it also is true that applying fire to something can cause it to smoke. Gossip is like fire, deadly fire. Applying gossip to businesses and people can cause them to go up in smoke. And, yes, sometimes that is the purpose
One thing about the motives of the gossip: he or she never tells about the good things, but only the bad. No mention of the daily faithful showing up for work, only banner headlines about the one late morning–see?
Another popular saying here is: “Gossip–even the word, itself, hisses like a snake!” These people are like snakes, coiled up and waiting to strike, aren’t they.
Of course, in the business world, gossip is probably part of the new, violent competition to be at the top of the pile of money. But on a personal level, it is nothing more than needing to feel or look better by making others look bad. Most thinking people can see through such lies, but in the business world, it is oh, so hard to know what to think, where to invest or even do banking. So hard. It is a sign, not of advancement, though, but of mere humanity. All people are capable of this meanness, all people must always keep the tongue on a very short leash.
Thanks for raising this question and sharing your thoughts, Giulas!
Such a great comment!! Thank you!!! I love the idea od the sound a snake does “gossip”. In Brasil is called “fofoca” ahd it sounds like a big goose!!! I try to stay out of gossipers way as much as i can…
Hmm, my father used to say that behind your back quote too. My dad’s birthday is this Wednesday. He turns 69 years old. He is an old man now and it makes me very sad.
Me too. I think that is wise.
The best way to go!
“Where there is smoke there is fire” reminds me of indians sending smoke signals along time ago before there were phones.
That’s funny!!! and it makes sense…
I wrote this the other day on my other blog. https://oyeniyicommentary.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/global-public-debt-a-simple-perspective/
Different approach to you, but similar idea!
Good thoughts!
Thank you!! I’ll read it right away!!!
gossiping is repugnant. I never knew how damaging it could be until I worked in the place I am currently in.
Besides that, i am certainly aware of how negative comments can colour perspectives that might otherwise be neutral, they are like empty rooms being filled with zyklon b! so many of us don’t bother taking the time to discover the truth or at least enough for an informed opinion.
You are so right!!! Usually who tells the tale gets the lead. After that the real facts are not that important… I hate that…
[…] 3. Giulas – for amazing photos, and posting in English as a second language, almost without a single flaw. […]
Thank you so much!!! 🙂
Well, I meant every word. You are welcome!
Thank you!!! 🙂
