Tomorrow i’m shooting a music video. Something i don’t do for a long time. I’m not sure if it’s because of MTV’s change in style but since more talk shows and morning shows and less music videos shaped today’s MTV the music vídeos got less and less room in people’s lives. Actually i think it only existed as big as it was on the 80’s and 90’s because of MTV and record companies marketing strategies. It’s a nice way to sell records. For me it’s awesome because it’s a place were a director can try many different styles and techniques but as part of the audience i think music videos as we knew are going to happen less and less. With internet we have much more choices and so do musicians. Fans are not millions anymore. Sometimes thousands are enough. So the images that follows these musics are more and more personal and the audience really enjoy it. Proximity with their favorite musician is important. No more giant meaningless videos with millions to spend in effects. Of course some Gagas and Spears will keep making some of those but it’s less and less common. The Music video i’m doing tomorrow is closer to this new time. It’s a party in an apartment. A birthday party with lots of fun. This is the way things are now. Small equipments and crew and more intimacy. That’s the new face of music videos and i like it!
PS: i leave you guys with a duo that startet in the internet era…they are amazing…
Ladies and gentlemen….”Pomplamoose”
well they’re about as cute as they can be…. although “cute” might betray my age…but then so does Mr. Sandman. A song I know.
Fun!
cute!!! That’s it… i use cute too..does that betray my age?? lol
Awww, thanks for sharing this.
Thank you!!!!
I like the first part of that video very much!
I tried to play the same song – Mr. Sandman – in Berlin
(where you have been too) –
but of course my version
is a joke and not perfect at all …
Great!!!! really fun!!! you got your sound to the street…
but much more perfect, I think: the version of my friend KAI:
Wow…great player…
and in my hometown often plays the Gypsy guitarist Joscho Stephan
we had some great parties with his music in the background
Sounds like lots of fun!! I just love that kind of music in a party… : ) …just not sure if i would dance or if i would just watch him playing…
i know very little about music. or how music videos are done. i think you’re right about the music video industry and that at the very least it’s moving into another era. i like the idea behind where you are taking it. i think a lot of our world is now on a search and re-define status. and it is changing so fast with so many new options – wow. zing. and it’s all new all over again.
the music video you left us with… yeah, i liked it too. i have to believe that would be much more difficult without digital technology. if i am understanding it right, she is singing all 3 parts in ?harmony? (is that harmony?) with herself. and it’s way cool to see her doing it with the 3 views – as well as the views of the guys in the same way – each in their own part. a fun video. even the last half caught me by surprise – because i have an interest in tee-shirt designs. bwahahahaha. life and the circle of coming around… fun. aloha.
Thanks…That’s right…they do it in their house and all by themselves…that’s the idea since the beginning and what is amazing is that they found a really cheap and cool and personal way of making music videos. They are huge right now and those are the tools they used to do it…
oh. P. S. – have fun on your birthday part video shoot. that’s what a birthday party is about, yes? fun? so… have fun.
Thank again!!! It was really fun…The vibe was perfect and everybody helped… I love to do things like this…
beautiful. thanks for sharing. glad you can do more of the things that you enjoy again.
Thanks!! There will be always room for special projects like this… i really just stopped the everyday directing job : )
Good luck with the music video. You’ll post when it’s ready, yes?
Here in the U.S., Pomplamoose did a series of car commercials where they sing holiday tunes to a car. I admire their ability to break through using the Internet, but if I hear their version of Jingle Bells one more time, I might punch a Hyundai.
LOL… I’ll post it for sure… wow…jingle bells on major tv and radio…really annoying…
Enjoyed the clip by Pomplamoose 😮 I remember the car commercials, too.
Have a great time shooting the music video – hope you’ll share it here when you’re done!
Thank you!!! I will share it for sure!!! 🙂
And the new intimacy creates a closer bond with the music!
True!!! It’s really amazing!!!
[…] Stephan. You will enter a wonderful studio work atmosphere watching the last example: thanks to Giuliano in Sao Paulo who gave the link in his wordpress blog. I like music, which is framed by working atmosphere, good […]
thank you, Giuliano, you inspired me to post
about music video-messages …
So glad to read you feel it’s better when the shoot and project are small and intimate. I prefer to pay more, stand in line longer… just to hear a band play a bar as opposed to hopping online grabbing a ticket and seeing them in an arena – with 10,000 others.
Sureeee thing!!!! me too…
Have a great birthday and enjoy all your videos!
